DESCRIPTION:
A deciduous, thorny shrub reaching 1–1.5 meters high with velvety, dark green pinnate leaves and richly fragrant deep pink to crimson flowers, usually semi-double or fully double. It blooms in early summer and is one of the oldest cultivated rose species, known for its beauty and potent aroma.

USABLE PARTS: Petals (primarily), hips (fruit), and occasionally leaves

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES:
Petals are astringent, cooling, and mildly anti-inflammatory. Traditionally used for sore throats, digestive upsets, skin inflammations, and emotional balance. Rose hips are rich in vitamin C and support the immune system, joints, and skin health.

UNDESIRED EFFECTS:
Very safe. Rarely, mild allergic reactions may occur to rose preparations. Overuse of rose hips may cause mild diarrhea due to high acidity.

COMBINING WITH OTHER MEDICINES:
Blends well with lemon balm, chamomile, or linden for calming teas. Combined with hawthorn for heart tonic blends, or with elderflower in cold and flu support teas.

PREPARATION:
Petals are used in infusions, syrups, tonics, and rose water for internal and topical use. Rose hips are decocted or infused as tea, or made into jams, syrups, and powders. Dried petals are also added to herbal baths and compresses.

HARVEST TIME:
Petals: Early to mid-summer (May–July)
Hips: Autumn (September–October)

HARVEST METHOD:
Pick petals early in the morning after dew dries. Hips are gathered when fully red and firm, before frost. Dry both gently to preserve color and scent.

CONSERVATION (STORAGE):
Store dried petals and hips in airtight containers away from light and moisture. Use within one year for best potency and fragrance.

Note: Rosa gallica is not only a classic medicinal and ornamental plant, but also a symbol of beauty, love, and healing in herbal traditions throughout Europe and the Middle East.
